water leaking

Colorado, United States

Water leaks in through box inside at ceiling when snow melts or heavy downpour rain.  Will either drip through corner of box or run down outside of pipe.  No one can find where water is entering.

Can anyone offer advice?

First off I would check the flashing around where the chimney exits the roof
Second I would look IN THE ATTIC and see if you can find a water trail on the underside of the roof leading to the chimney.
Sometimes there is a small hole in the actual roof and the water seeps in and then runs down towards the chimney, hits the chimney and runs down the pipe into the ceiling support box where ti then pools until it drips out of the box.
This is best done on a sunny day or you can run the hose above the chimney and then station someone in the attic to watch to see where the water is coming in.
