Fireplace leaks water from the outside

there are two small red boxes on either side of my fire place and one of them looks like it is leaking water from the outside.

I think you are referring to the heat vents on either side of your heatform fireplace?
If water is leaking thru these openings then there may be some serious deterioration in the heatform body that is allowing water to get in from the chimney.
These vents are designed to circulate heat off the body of the fireplace and should be a sealed unit
I would seriously refer you to find a local sweep and have them look at this situation hands on. http://www.csia.org will find you a local certifed tech
