Cleanout Door

The cleanout door sits toward the bottom of the chimney as can be seen in the photo on the left. Note that the door is open and the sweep has inserted a tool for cleaning the chimney. On the right, a cleanout door has been removed leaving the square hole that we see. Note the chimney professional holding a large piece of debris that fell down the chimney. Often times debris builds up inside the chimney and creates an obstruction. This is a VERY dangerous situation and a cleanout door provides another way to clean the base of the chimney.
