About North East Assoc of Chimney Hearth Professionals:

The Northeast Association of Chimney Professionals is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing public awareness of chimney safety and maintenance issues. Through technical training, training in business skills and association referrals to members, we also endeavor to foster growth and success for member companies.

In the State of New Hampshire in 2011 we had 1,797 fires in a home. Out of those fires 747 were heating or solid fuel related fires. They caused $1,039,381 in damages to homes and property. In the State of Vermont in 2011 we had 2366 structure fires. Out of these structure fires 35 percent of those were heating related. The fire departments’ estimated dollar loss is $21,266,173.

The tragedies that result from chimney fires, where homes and lives are lost, are preventable with proper maintenance and operation of your fireplace and heating system. In fact, all heating systems require periodic maintenance of their exhaust components (not just wood-burning devices). In fact, the more efficient furnaces of today can actually damage your chimney lining more quickly than older furnaces.

The lining of your chimney is the main barrier between the hot expelled exhaust gasses and the building materials that support and surround it. An inefficient liner greatly increases your risk of fire and can prevent the removal of potentially fatal gasses (such as carbon monoxide) from your home. Moreover, the National Fire Protection Association recommends that all chimneys be inspected annually.

A chimney professional does much more than sweep chimneys. Most certified professionals can also perform relining, repair, restoration and other masonry type work. They can also advise you on other potentially dangerous issues related to your home heating systems.

Talk with your local chimney professional today, to ensure that that the warmth and comfort afforded by your fireplace, wood stove or furnace remains safe for your home and your family. Remember, a chimney flue and lining free of combustibles, won’t catch fire!
