Chimneys.com was established in 1994 by Oliver Beauchemin and Ron Herman. It was the first web site focused on chimneys. At the time, Oliver was running a chimney service company in the Boston area, as well as a start-up industry magazine. The Internet was in its infancy, and it seemed only natural to setup a web site for homeowners and chimney professionals focused on everything chimneys.
In October 2011, we launched the current version of Chimneys.com on an entirely new platform, enabling us to offer more information and services to homeowners, while expanding our offerings to Chimney Professionals and Industry Vendors & Manufacturers. This was not just the launch of a new web site, but also the launch of a new business. We have lots of exciting plans for Chimneys.com in the upcoming months.
Oliver has been involved in the chimney industry since the mid-80s. He was initially co-founder and CEO of a chimney company in the Boston area which developed into an enterprise encompassing three offices and a substantial number of employees. Prior to his work in the chimney industry, Oliver attained both an AB and MA from Boston College and was a Cand. PhD at Brown University.
Along the way, Oliver established and edited Chimney Professional Magazine which had a vast circulation in the USA and Canada. After the printed publication went online, gears were shifted and Oliver became involved in website development; initially for manufacturers and chimney professionals and then many businesses outside the chimney industry.
Oliver has recently completed a series of ten articles that were published in a leading chimney publication. Currently, his focus is on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and he can often be found at various SEO/SEM conferences. Oliver has also delivered a number of presentations on SEO/SEM both inside and outside the chimney industry.
Way back in the early 90s, Ron was a CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep. He's proud to have been trained by Todd Woofenden, a long time friend, and the late Gerry Shedin, who taught him among other things, the fine art of living and enjoying your profession.
After his move to Vermont, Ron attended the University of Vermont and graduated with a degree in Computer Science. That kicked off his software development career. For 10 years, Ron helped develop a very successful high growth internet company focused on e-commerce and the grocery industry. His work evolved into software development management. Today, Ron considers himself an entrepreneur, and is very excited about his involvement in Chimneys.com. "It's like coming home, closing the circle, applying my recently acquired capabilities back to the industry that I so much enjoyed."
